Cunca Wulang Canyon

Cunca Wulang Canyon, located 30km east of Labuan Bajo and nestled in a tropical rainforest setting, is one of Flores' most striking spots for outdoor activities. Impressive waterfalls cascade into beautiful, fresh-water pools and lead into a series of smaller waterfalls and rivers a few kilometers downstream.
In recent years, Cunca Wulang gained popularity among the canyoning community as an excellent destination for this popular outdoor sport. Even if canyoning is not your favorite sport, the area still offers good hiking and swimming options. The medium-impact hike to Cunca Wulang from Wersawe Village is pleasantly seamed by paddy fields in different stages of their planting and harvesting cycle. Vanilla, coffee, candlenut, and cacao can also be seen along the trail; and the last, steep part leads you through a section of lush tropical rain forest.
Cunca Wulang Canyon can be enjoyed by families as part of a day trip to dip in the beautiful pools. Adventurers seeking the thrills of canyoning in combination with navigational travel skills in the wilderness will be rewarded as well.
You can combine the trip to Cunca Wulang with an excursion to the Rodak limestone caves, which takes you about 60 minutes of hiking. However, the expertise of a local guide will be needed to find the way to the caves.
About Canyoning at Cunca Wulang
So far, no professional canyoning operator has  taken up the business opportunity in the Cunca Wulang Canyon yet. However, this does not mean that you cannot explore the canyon. Physically fit visitors can walk along the canyon and enjoy its watery pleasures. The local youngsters in Wersawe Village will be glad to show you the best trails and places in the canyon, for a small contribution.
Facilities
As there are no restaurants or local food stalls operating in this area, it is recommended to bring your own picnic and water supplies. Young local villagers in Wersawe are happy to serve as your guides to the waterfalls and caves. After returning to the village from your canyon exploration, the local people will gladly cater you with refreshing young coconut (if available) or other local delicacies, for a small contribution. If you intend to visit the caves, make sure you bring a good flashlight.
How to get there
Follow the main road from Labuan Bajo to Ruteng. After 26km you will reach Cekonobo where you have to turn left, heading downhill towards Wersawe Village. It is 4km from the main road crossing to Wersawe, and the road has recently been paved. It is possible to go there by car or motorbike. But depending on the season it can get pretty rough to drive. After heavy rains, it may even be impossible to go there by car
